Winkler/Lohse claim bronze medal in Paris
Kati Winkler/Rene Lohse claimed the bronze medal Saturday
(November 25) night at the Trophee Lalique in Paris. It was
their first medal in the Grand Prix Series this season. Kati
and Rene put in a strong performance, although he was suffering
from a cold. The dance featured nice moves and strong footwork.
"I felt like my legs would explode at the end of the program",
commented Lohse. "It was hard." They were happy to have won
the bronze, but are looking forward to progress further. "We
still need to work a lot on that program", explained Winkler.
"We'll think of what we can do better." They both feel that
they don't get the same response for the Free Dance as for the
OD. "We don't know yet what it is", Kati added. "It is a difficult
theme, and we knew that. But we wanted to do something new."
The Trophee Lalique was the first scoring-event for Kati and
Rene. They will compete again next week in Japan, where they
can qualify for the Final, if they finish at least third in
FD and OD.
Winkler/Lohse third after Compulsory and Original Dance in Paris
Kati Winkler/Rene Lohse are in third after the Compulsory
and Original Dance at the Trophee Lalique in Paris. Their Tango
Romantica Compulsory Dance was solid, but a bit careful. As
many other dancers, Kati and Rene were not happy with the ice
conditions. "All couples had some problems because of the traces
in the ice", said Winkler. "We could have skated more aggressive,
but we are happy with how we did." They vowed the audience with
a funny Charleston and Quickstep to music from "Cabaret". They
showed off good footwork and defended their position. "We like
to skate our Original Dance. I believe Cabaret is a good choice
for us, we get really into it. The audience liked it as well",
commented Lohse. "Hopefully we'll do well tomorrow again." As
Kati announced, they changed the beginning of the Free Dance
a bit to make it more dynamic. "We were in Munich again to work
with choreographer Werner Lipowski", she added.
