2006/2007 Figure Skating Season

Hi Kati & Rene
I haven't visited your website for quite a while but check in recently just to see how things are going. Great to know that you are still performing and working together.
However the reason for my question is about the new compulsory dances you are working on. As a keen ice dancer and ice dancing fan, this is very exciting.
I don't know how much you can say but I have a few questions.
What is the process for these new dances to be put into the ISU rulebook?
Were you asked to do this by the ISU or are you the ones who have suggested it to the ISU?
With the Jive, what music are you using? I assume it will be an instrumental piece. And is the Quickstep music the same as what is currently used?
Are there any patterns written up yet or do they have to be officially acccepted before patterns will be released?
How much work have you done on the dances and how much work have you worked with Susanna and Petri on the Quickstep?
If they do get accepted as new CDs how long will it be before they get used in competition?
I hope you don't mind that I have so many questions but I am really excited about this for ice dancing in the future and it is about time there was a Jive  CD - I have been thinking that for years. So thank you for doing it. Now all we need is a Techno OD in competition.
All the best
Kim

Hi, Kim
First of all thank you for your Mail, you have really a lot of questions :-) We hope we can answer at least some parts.
We were not asked by the ISU to do this, we just wanted to improve the Compulsories a little bit, to give a little fresh input. The new Quickstep is the old Original Dance of Susanna Rahkamo and Petri Kokko, transformed to a Compulsory Dance, it has in our opinion a little bit more Quickstep Charakter than the old Quickstep.
The ISU will use the old music ( everything is a question of money) and in addition the piece of Susi and Petri´s Orignial Dance Music. Susanna and Petri worked with our coach already years ago on this idea, we just made some little changes and wanted to go on with this project. The Quickstep is may be already planned for the season 2007/2008. But we still have a lot of work going on.
A videotaping is planned at Europeans and we have to write down every single step, hold and the pattern. For the Jive it will take a little bit longer, we have to make some changes, but we also try to prepare it for the Videotaping in January. And for the Jive also instrumental music will be used.
So you see a lot of work to go, at the moment we don´t have so much time to concentrate on these Compulsory Dances, because we are working for "Stars auf Eis" for German TV, where we skate with a celebrity. It is a lot of fun and hard work :-)
So may be we should think about another Hip Hop Compulsory Dance for the future :-)..
No, first of all we have to bring the Quickstep and Jive to run.
All the best to you and we hope the ice dancers in the world will not start to hate us because of the new Steps :-)
Greetings from Germany to Down Under
Kati and René
