Translated from German (shortened): Hello Tobias,
thank you very much for your congratulations! We are very lucky after all the heighs and depths we went through.
As to your question, no, I am not single anymore. I am in love and lucky. My boy friend has big part in our success since he supported me also in hard times. That I won't ever forget...
Best wishes from Oberstdorf, Kati

Translated from German: Hello Julia,
no, unfortunately we do not have pets because we do not have enough time. René used to have a dog at home in Berlin, called Sina. We both love animals very much especially dogs. Maybe we have more time in the future.
Best wishes to Bratislava from Oberstdorf,
Kati and René :-)

Kati,
Are you and Gwendal dating?
Teresa
USA - Friday, July 26, 2002 at 18:53:54 (MET DST)

Hi, Teresa
No, i´m not dating Gwendal, but he is one of my best friends in the skating world. Kati

My name is Neal Lohse.
When looking on the web for Ancestry details I found a reference to my family name LOHSE and the fact that you were mentioned in the search.
How did you come by the name Lohse ?
Any History?
I have some details on my fathers family of Lohse's, and I am very keen to find out more about those who have this very distinctive name.
My father was born in Halsingborg,Sweden 1930, which is not too far from Denmark. A ferry ride I'm told. He travelled the world as a merchant seaman, and settled in Australia to raise a family of 5 children.
It is very likely that we have common ancestors.
If you get a moment, please mail me.
Kind Regards
Neal Lohse
PS: Good luck with your "artistry" during 2002!
Its the only way to describe what you do

Hi Neal,
this is René from Germany. Sorry for answering so late.
I must say I don't know much about my name's history. I'm raised in the former GDR. There we were not allowed to travel much. Only to east european countries we could go. So I never had the chance to go to Australia and also my family since the World War II. couldn't visit that continent. I really don't know what happend before that.
Sorry that I can't say more.
Take care Mr. Lohse,
Sincerly René Lohse

I just returned to the States after living in Germany for nine years and had the pleasure of following Kati's skating career while living in Celle. Could you tell me if she is married?
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Dr. Bill Martens

Hello, Dr. Martens,
no, Kati is not married, but she's having a boy-friend.
Greetings from Oberstdorf Kati and Rene

Hello Kati and Rene,
I just want to let both of you know what a Fabulous ice team you are. I wish you were representing the U.S.A !!! Kati my question to you is having grown up in Katerina Witt's hometown of Karl-Marx-Stadt did you ever compete against her in the former GDR ? Did you go to School with her? Best wishes to you both !!

Hello, Sean
Thanks for your mail, we are back on the ice after Renes injury and we hope so much to make it until Salt Lake City!!
Now to your question: Yes, i grew up in Karl-Marx-Stadt until i was ten years old. I skated in the same club like Katarina Witt, she was always my idol, but i never skated against her in former GDR, because i was much younger. When i started to skate there i was 4 and Katarina 12. We were in the same school, but had never to do so much with each other, because of the age difference.
But since that time i know her and admire her for everything she reached in her life. she is a great person. Now we skate sometimes in her show "Summernight on ice" in Germany and she supports us with this very much, we have a good relation now with her.
Greetings from Oberstdorf send you
Kati and Rene :-)

Hello Kati and Rene,
I would like to ask your advice about my skating partner. I read once before that you used to date each other when you were younger, do you think it is a good idea for dancing pertners to date each other? I'am 17 years old and I skate junior, I have been dating my dance partner for 1 year and it is harder to skate together now than it was when we were only friends. I once read in a skating book that the relationship between partners should be proffesional only. What do you think about this? Any advice you can give me would be so appreciated!
One more question :) Do you both have many disapointments as sportspersons that you find difficult to get past? (such as a disapointing result in a competition) if so how do you get over it?
Thankyou Kati and Rene! Goodluck with your skating. I hope to be able to meet you someday!

Hello, Rebecca
Actually we think for your first question, if skate partners should date or not, that every couple should find their own way how to deal with that. We prefer, to be good friends and we think it is the best way for us, but for others it works the other way round better... So sorry, if we can not tell you what is right or wrong :-)
And don´t try to find the answer in some books, just try to find it in your heart...
And to your second question. Yes, you always have moments in sports, where you get disappointed or sad. But we always try to get over those hard times, remembering that skating is not the biggest thing in this world. There are so many more problems in the world to solve, that compared to that our problems are so little... We find our motivation back in thinking we skate for the audience, we want to bring a smile on peoples face and we enjoy skating, that´s what we are there for in the moment.
Bye for today, and just enjoy skating. It is a great gift...
Kati and René

Translated from German: Hello,

René: Hi Daniel,
Finally I find the time to answer to your questions.
First of all I want to thank you for your visit on our homepage. I hope you liked it!
Well, I'm not a single. Since 2 years I'm together with an canadien girl. We are living right now together in Oberstdorf (Germany).
I actually like M. Kwan's skating. I think she is very elegant on the ice. Well, I very often have the chance to meet other skaters and I do like the most of them as a friend!
I hope I could answer everything.
Take care,bye,René

Translated from German: Hello, did you get my drawing I sent you short before the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano?

Kati & René: Thank you very much for your drawing, we were again very pleased about your little work of art!

With how commited you have to be to your sport do you have time for personal lives the same way other people do, to enjoy yourself with friends, to have hobbies, to travel, things like that?
David Brown
Bathurst, N.B, Canada - Friday, May 7, 1999

Hallo David,
for sure we have to be commited to our sport, but nevertheless, we have to take us also time for our hobbies and friends, because we live only once! Maybe we have not the time other people have, but when you are a sportsmen, you learn so much to organize the short time you have.
We love to go to the movies, to go out with friends and have parties, for sure in the season there is not so much time, but after the season during show-tours or even during our army-seminars we meet a lot people, have fun and also parties.
During the season we do a lot of other sports too, this is somehow our biggest hobby, René loves to play tennis. I like inline-skating, beach-volleyball and aerobics. Also I love to read, and I like to learn languages, in the moment i try to improve my french.
So as you can see, we always try to have also our personal lifes, even we have sometimes just one day off per week, we try to make the best out of it. For sure we don't have that much time like other people to travel, sometimes I would like to go just for a weekend to Italy or something like that, but that's most time not possible.
But we also need this personal life, because sometimes skating is much easier when you saw something else then the ice-rink.
But sport is in the moment our life and job, so we have to live for that. The worst thing sometimes is to have not that much holidays, this year we are going to have one week, because we have to solve every year some weeks in the army, where we are off the ice, so there goes our time for holidays.
Best wishes to you, David
Until next mail, Kati & René

Do you have a private liaison beside the ice?

Private we are going different ways, but we are really good friends and we do a lot things together in our leisure time.

What are you doing in your leisure time?

Kati: I like to go jogging, dancing, aerobics, sometimes swimming and I like to go to the cinema, meeting friends, I like shopping and talking on the phone, because my family and most of my friends still live in Berlin.
I also like to listen to good music and just relax with music. And I'm very often in the great nature of Oberstdorf, this summer I did some hiking.
Another thing I like very much are languages, in the moment I want to start to learn some Italian.
René: I like biking, tennis and computer stuff, also going to the cinema and meeting friends. I also likes music and to watch sometimes a good DVD.
Sometimes we both like to go to a bigger city, like Munich, because Oberstdorf is really small, and we both are from Berlin. A big difference!!
